When Vista Beta 2 does release;can you use it by running VPC2004 with a HD that has 40Gb total? The current o.s. is XP Pro?

Vista & Virtual PC 2004
We don't know if it will be supported, current builds continue to experience issues with Virtual PC 2004. I suggest you use either VM Ware Workstation 5.5 or Virtual Server 2005 R2. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Thanks Andre, Downloaded VM Ware Workstation 5.5-just waiting now. Oh, VM workstation wants a cd for the o.s.;do you think MS will provide that in Beta 2?;or let me know how to set it up when Beta 2 is available. Thanks,

You can install from the ISO with VM Ware 5.5, just creat the .vhd file first, browse to the location where the iso file is, boot the .vhd and it should automatically detect it. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Not for everyone though, its most likely to turn out with errors too, and it requires a minimum of 1GB of RAM. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

LOL - Vista installes on Virtual Server 2005 R2 about the same sorta time - just less than an hour I do believe. Need a lot of RAM for the host operating system though - 1.5GB or more recommended.

What if you're running it on a full server in a full cabinet? That'd make more sense then.

Has anyone successfully installed Vista beta2 on Virtual PC 2004? I have attempted this several times but get a file load error and have to quit. I figure if I can get it loaded on a virtual PC, then I won't ruin my personal XP workstation.
I might add that Vista iso was loaded to DVD as regular image. Maybe there is something I'm doing wrong or, as the other posts say, there is a problem using VPC 2004 with Vista.

The best way to do this I had success with is:
1. Load the ISO using ISO mount utility like Nero's ImageDrive or the free Dameon. 2. Use the physical drive where the ISO is loaded on the VPC. 3. Make sure the VPC drive has at least 512MB and 10GB space.

First of all, I would say Virtual PC 2004 is not a recommend choice, but persons have been successful. I recommend using VM Ware Workstation 5.5 or Virtual Server 2005 R2. VM Ware Workstation 5.5 preferrably. The more RAM you assign to the Virtual Machine, the better the experience, I recommend a minimum of 512 MBs or more.
You can download the VM Ware trial here: http://www.vmware.com/download/ws/eval.html
